Rotobrush Duct Sealing & Repair: The Queens Owner’s Guide
If you own a Rotobrush system in Queens and the sealing or repair components have failed, we stock compatible replacement parts and install them for a typical all-in range of $225 to $485, depending on your model and what’s actually broken. Most jobs are completed the same day we arrive. The way owners usually find us is after a job goes sideways: the vacuum suddenly loses suction mid-cleaning, a seal tears and starts blowing debris out the side, or the brush head stops seating properly against the duct wall. What started as a routine cleaning turns into downtime, and every day the machine sits idle is money out of your pocket.
Linden Air Duct Queens is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Rotobrush, but we’ve worked on their machines across Queens for years, including plenty of units in Flushing where the older housing stock and mixed-use buildings put real strain on seals and gaskets. Marcus Veale and our crew keep Rotobrush-compatible parts on the truck for the most common failure points, because we know that when your machine’s down, you’re not looking for a catalog number. You’re looking for the part that fits and a straight answer on what it costs.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
Rotobrush has made several generations of duct cleaning machines, and the sealing and repair components are not universally interchangeable. The most common units we see in Queens are the aiR+ and R5000 series, along with older R2 and R3 models still running in commercial fleets. Each generation uses different brush head diameters, different vacuum hose couplers, and different shaft seal geometries. A seal that fits an aiR+ will not seat correctly on an R3, and forcing it is how you end up with worse damage than you started with.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see repeatedly: the brush head shaft diameter changed between generations. Older R2 units run a 1.25-inch shaft. The aiR+ and R5000 run 1.5-inch. If you order a seal for the wrong shaft size, it either won’t slide on or it’ll spin free and tear within a few jobs. Before you call us, check the model plate on your unit’s frame. It’s typically a silver or white sticker near the power switch. That model number tells us exactly which seal kit, bearing set, and coupler your machine needs. If the plate is worn off, measure the shaft with a caliper or tape measure and we can match it from there.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Rotobrush OEM seals and couplers are solid, but they’re priced at a premium. We stock quality aftermarket equivalents from trade-trusted manufacturers for most models, and frankly, we’ve seen aftermarket urethane seals outlast OEM rubber ones in Queens humidity. The difference is material, not branding. We’ll tell you which is which and what we’d put on our own machine, then let you decide.

Signs Your Rotobrush Duct Sealing & Repair Is Failing
- Loss of vacuum suction at the brush head. This usually means the shaft seal or the vacuum hose coupler gasket has degraded. Air is being pulled in through the gap instead of through the duct, and your cleaning power drops fast.
- Debris blowing out the side of the brush assembly. The main seal around the brush head housing has torn or slipped out of its groove. You’ll see dust escaping around the housing instead of being captured by the vacuum. This is the most common failure we repair in Queens, and it’s usually caused by heat and humidity breaking down the seal material over time.
- Grinding or squealing noise from the drive shaft bearing. Bearings wear out, especially in older R2 and R3 units that have seen years of commercial use. A dry bearing will scream before it seizes. Ignoring the noise turns a $40 bearing replacement into a $300 shaft repair.
- Brush head wobbling or not seating evenly against the duct wall. The shaft bushing or the brush mounting hub is worn. You’ll see uneven cleaning patterns and the brush won’t maintain contact. This is also a sign that the shaft itself may be slightly bent, which we can assess once the unit is on our bench.
- Vacuum hose coupler popping off mid-job. The coupler’s locking tabs or the internal gasket have worn down. In hot attics and tight Queens crawl spaces, plastic couplers get brittle and either crack or lose their grip. It’s a small part, but it stops the whole job cold.

That’s not a policy we bend on. It’s the same guarantee we’ve stood behind as part of the Threshold Group family since 2004.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely check yourself: inspect the seals for visible cracks, tears, or flattening. Check the coupler for cracked locking tabs. Note the model number. That’s a five-minute visual inspection that helps you describe the problem accurately when you call us. What we don’t recommend is tearing into the brush head assembly yourself. The shaft rotates at high speed, and reassembling a seal kit wrong means the seal fails again, usually mid-job, usually with debris blowing into a customer’s home. We’ve fixed plenty of DIY repair attempts that cost more than the original problem would have. If you’re not certain about the part or the repair, call us at (845) 237-0925 and we’ll walk you through what we’re seeing and what it’ll take to fix it right.
FAQs
In Queens conditions, plan on 18 to 30 months of regular use for seals, and 3 to 5 years for bearings. Humidity breaks down rubber and urethane seals faster here than in drier climates, and if your unit lives in a truck or van through Queens summers and winters, the temperature swings accelerate wear. If you’re seeing fewer than 18 months, something else is usually wrong: misalignment, an undersized seal, or a bent shaft.
No. We’ve never seen a patch hold for more than a job or two. The seal is under constant friction and heat, and any adhesive or tape will give way quickly. Replacement is the honest fix and it’s not expensive. Call us at (845) 237-0925 and we’ll give you the exact price for your model before anything is ordered.
Most seal and bearing replacements on Rotobrush units take 45 to 90 minutes once the machine is on our bench. If you can get the unit to us, we can often turn it around the same day. If we’re coming to you in Queens, we handle everything on-site and you’re back to work the same afternoon.
We stock the common failure parts on the truck: seals for aiR+ and R5000 series, couplers, bearings, and bushings. For older R2 and R3 units or less common parts, we source them from our suppliers and have them within one to two business days. We also work with parts for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier systems when the job calls for it. And if the part you need isn’t a Rotobrush-compatible item at all, we’ll tell you that plainly instead of selling you something that doesn’t fit.
The duct doesn’t lie. Neither do I. If your Rotobrush machine isn’t sealing or running right, call us at (845) 237-0925 and tell us the model number. We’ll give you a straight answer on the part, the price, and when we can get you back on the job. Free estimates, written guarantees on every repair, and a live person answers the phone 24/7.
